NOTD: UFO Amethyst with Sinful Colors

sinful colors nail polish ufa amethyst NOTD purple orange glitter

There seems to be a lack of purple in my nail polish collection, so when picking up a few of the “newly launched in the UK” Sinful Colors, that had to be rectified. Luckily there is a market stall at the weekend in Southampton who have gotten hold of them, selling for £1 each. Bargain!

OPI Base Coat
Sinful Colors Amethyst x2
Sinful Colors UFO
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat

sinful colors nail polish ufa amethyst NOTD purple orange glitter swatch

The application is surprisingly good! Amethyst did go on a little streaky, but I tried one of the other shades on my toes and that one seems fine. UFO is such a gorgeous glitter which looks amazing over bright colours, I am definitely going to be grabbing some more of them. Wear time is average for me, chipping at around the day and a half mark. For the price and array of beautiful colours, worth it.

Have you picked up any of the new Sinful Colors polishes? Which one is your favourite?

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in Crush & Darling Review

Revlon just bitten kissable balm stains chubby sticks review swatch darling crush 2

Revlon just bitten kissable balm stains chubby sticks review swatch darling crush

It’s about time I got around to reviewing these babies. They have been firm staples in my routine (and handbag) since I picked them up a few months ago. Nearly identical to Clinique Chubby Sticks but alot more purse friendly, the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are a must have this season. With a spectrum of pretty colours housed in sleek packaging, there is something for everybody. I have Darling, a light lavender pink and Crush, a bright berry. The first thing I love about these, is the application. It’s no secret that “crayon” type lip products are my favourite, but the way the Revlon Balm Stains effortlessly glide onto the lips really is reminiscent of a balm. The formula is moisturising and the colour nicely pigmented, being buildable so desired opacity can be achieved. Another plus is longevity, colour sticking around for hours with only minor fading, the darker of the two staining the lips a little.

[Darling]

I do have a Clinique Chubby Stick but find myself reaching for these alot more. If I was to purchase other shades in the future (which I probably will) I would go for Revlon over Clinique, purely for the price. Both products work the same, in fact I would say they are pretty identical, it’s just one is double the price.

Pros: Affordable, Long lasting, Easy application, Moisturising, Practical attractive packaging.
Cons: Only 7 shades (although they are pretty diverse).

You can find the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in Boots or Superdrug for £7.99 each, although there are often offers to take advantage of. I would love to see more shades released in the future, hello plum/dark purple!

What are your favourite colours from the Kissable Balm Stain range? What colours are you hoping to pick up in the future?

A Lannister Always Pays His Debts

Tshirt: HBO Website
Trousers: Sohos
Shoes: New Look
Nail Polish: Barry M Lychee

Yes yes, I am a complete and utter clash failure. I snapped this quite a while ago before my Cinderella DisneyBound to test the lighting and thought I may as well share it with you! I'm shooting a photographic project next week to do with slogan/pop culture t-shirts but this one has to be my favourite. I’m a Song of Ice and Fire fanatic, the Lannisters being one of my favourites houses so was overjoyed when the boyfriend got me this t-shirt for Christmas.
The trousers I have had for years, reminiscent of my goth days. Although they are probably my most loved, most worn pair. I normally style them with a black tank top and creepers (as seen here) or some combat boots. Not to forget my (faux) leather jacket which gives that punky edge I adore. Quite a lazy day look photographed here, but the individual pieces are some of my wardrobe favourites.

Are you a GOT or Lannister fan?

NOTD: OPI Vintage Minnie If You Moust You Moust

OPI vintage minnie collection disney if you moust you moust swatch

When I spotted the OPI Vintage Minnie set in TK Max before Christmas I suggested (told) my other half that I would like (need) it for a Christmas present. Like the lovely boyfriend he is, he found himself at the till, nail polish set in hands. It has gone relatively unused throughout winter, but the sun is shining in Southampton so I have taken the opportunity to make my nails more weather appropriate.

If You Moust You Moust is a gorgeous bright pink which looks paler in the bottle than it does on the nails. It’s one of those colour I would associate more with Barbie than Minnie. The consistency is slightly watery compared to other OPI polishes I own, but application was easy and it went opaque in 2 coats.

I’m not really a “pink” kind of girl, but this shade compliments my skin tone really well! I’m looking forward to using this set more often as the sun finally makes an appearance in Britain.
Do you have any of the Vintage Minnie Collection?

Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner Review

collection 24 hour felt tip eyeliner black review liquid

collection 24 hour felt tip eyeliner black review

Liquid eyeliner is one of those things I always get asked how to use by my non-makeup obsessed friends. It takes alot of practice to get it precise and is very easy to mess up. Step in Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner, a fairly recent but much loved addition to my eyeliner pot. After seeing Hannah mention this many a time, I had to take advantage on the “spend £5 get this free” offer which was on in Superdrug a few weeks ago. I have tried 2 different felt tip liners in the past, one was terrible and just didn't have any pigmentation, the other was alright but didn't stick around very long, so I didn't really expect too much from this despite the good reviews. There could be some debate on whether this is actually classed as a liquid eyeliner, for me the answer having to be yes. It works just as well as the likes of my Rimmel Exaggerate but is alot easier to apply.

The packaging is practical and comfortable to hold, although abit of a downside is that sometimes product leaks onto my finger tips. More of an annoyance than a problem as the product dries fairly quickly, another bonus. Pigmentation is okay, but I tend to layer it up anyway which fortunately doesn't at all effect how easy this is to remove. The only area of the eye that seems to make the liner fade is the inner corner but I usually just stop the line where my lashes end as to not get a harsh “cutoff”. It glides on, being able to get a thick or thin line while remaining amazingly precise.

Priced at £2.99, Collection Extreme Felt Tip Liner is a complete bargain. I am 100% going to be repurchasing it in the future and have already recommended it to many of my friends. You can pick it up from Superdrug or Boots, in store and online.

Pros: Decent pigmentation, Easy application, Bargainous price, Doesn't dry out, Easy to remove.
Cons: Abit of leaking around the tip.

Have you tried Collection Extreme Felt Tip Liner? What is your favourite liquid eyeliner?

Face of the Week #3 Classic

_DSC0050edit

face of the week, classic

Being back in Southampton with my makeup means I can continue my Face of the Week posts! You can see my previous two and what this series aims are here and here! This week I aim to use products which will give me more of a “classic” look. Hello there winged out liner and a bold lip. I’ve neglected my eyelash stash for a few months so those will definitely be making an appearance. Unfortunately I am having one of those “technology hates me” days so the pictures I took today all suck. Bad times.

_DSC0046edit

What is a classic look without a red lip and winged out liner? Taking on the role is Sleek’s Pout Paint in Pinup and Disney’s Cruella De Vil lipgloss for a killer smile. My trusty Collection Extreme Felt Tip Liner will give me a gorgeous wing (if i can get them even, ha!) while MUA Eye Brow Pencil in Blonde will give some definition to my sparse brows. I know it’s not face makeup, but my OPI Vintage Minnie set is just a perfect combination don’t you think? Lastly, I picked up the new Seventeen Doll’d Up Mascara in town yesterday so hope this gives me the length i so desperately need.

How do you like to rock the classic look? What's your favourite red lippy?

All About Eyebrows: Define & Conquer

how to fill in sparse blonde eyebrows tutorial mua eyebrow pencil FOTD2

If trawling through makeup magazines/websites and seeing all those perfectly full, groomed eyebrows gives you major envy, I feel your pain. I have a love hate relationship with my eyebrows. They are naturally very blonde and sparse, to the point were they can become hard to see. Growing up, I never knew what to do with them. With no YouTube, no money to get them professionally done and no mothers advice I did many unspeakable things (including taking a box black hairdye to them and getting a little too enthusiastic with a razor). Eyebrows do amazing things to the face, enhancing your features and aiding with expression so it’s beyond me how I managed to go so long without really bothering. There are several methods you can use to tame and enhance. Waxing, threading and plucking are most common, each having slightly different benefits. My method of choice is threading. It’s quick, easy and gives more precise results than waxing as well as lasting a little longer. The only downside is that it does hurt a little more. Don’t worry though, after getting them threaded a few times the pain becomes practically none existent.

_DSC0023edit

As for defining, the two main options are tinting and filling them in with makeup. I used to get my brows tinted but now days i prefer to just add a little bit of powder or use an eyebrow pencil. I think it’s difficult for us sparse brow haired people to add some definition without going overboard. Even shaping can be a nightmare. Keep reading to see how I tame and fill my eyebrows!

how to fill in sparse blonde eyebrows

Pre-Threading. You can’t really see on the image unfortunately but I do get alot of blonde regrowth above and below the bits of colour. I got my brows tinted a long time ago and the colour never really wore out. No complaints here haha! The blonde is generally too fine and light to pluck, I always end up missing bits so this method is just easiest to me.

how to fill in sparse blonde eyebrows tutorial

Post-Threading. You can see my brows are alot neater with no more fly away hairs. There is more of a shape. I get mine done at Superdrug for £5 and it lasts around a month and half. If you want something specific make sure you tell whoever is doing them, as some will just tidy up any rogue hairs.

how to fill in sparse blonde eyebrows tutorial MUA

Define. I generally fill in my brows with my MUA Eyebrow Pencil in Blonde. Its probably a little too dark but it suits my hair colour. First I comb through to give an initial shape then I trace over with the pencil lightly applying colour with smaller “painting” motions.

how to fill in sparse blonde eyebrows tutorial mua eyebrow pencil

Brush & Blend. Next I comb through them with a small eyebrow brush (and comb) using upwards motions before sweeping to the side. This gives a more natural less “polished” look. Finally using a clear mascara or brow gel, I set the hairs so they won’t get messy throughout the day/night. Feel free to add concealer above and below to give a more defined edge.

Do you have any eyebrow horror stories? Do you prefer a bold or more natural brow?

Baby Lou Tattoo

jane waring photography beauty copyright

I’ve mentioned a few times here that I am primarily an aspiring Fashion and Beauty Photographer. Before I was into beauty and fashion, photography was my great love. Now recently I have kind of lost my mojo so I want to post more of my work here in an attempt to get some feedback, give myself some exposure and to just share my images with you all.

This was a shoot I did a couple of weeks ago with the amazing Kat Wenham for her friends magazine project (& for a portfolio update for us). Kat used an airbrush to achieve an almost tattooed lace look on the skin. Initial lighting from me was 2 background lights with soft boxes, a fill light on the right hand side with a soft box and a direct main light with a beauty dish. I also used black reflectors in front of the background lights to stop camera flare. The camera I used was a Canon 5D Mark 2 (borrowed from university, I’m primarily a Nikon girl).

jane waring photography beauty copyright gels jane waring photography beauty copyright gels back

After our initial cliché beauty shots I wacked out blue and pink gels to add some colour. I’ve never really experimented with them before so as a first go I'm pretty impressed with the results. Since then I have done another shoot with even more colour, so if you would like to see that please comment and let me know. I love photographing people and I know I have a long way to go, but i am starting to build up a nice little portfolio. The plan for when I finish university is to try and get an assistant position in a magazines photo department or with a photographer. It might not happen, but we shall see!

What do you think of me doing more photography related posts? Would you like to see more in the future? I’d love to hear your feedback. If anyone is wondering, the post title is a song by the Horrorpops!

Beauty Empties #1

Recent Beauty Empties, April 2013

I don’t think I've ever done an empties post before! Primarily because I don’t keep hold of the empty packaging and also because there's generally not many things I actually finish (especially makeup wise). While being home at my parents house though, I’ve used up quite a few products and actually will repurchase at least 4 of them.

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean
Having got this just before Christmas, its become my initial cleanser of choice (I always double cleanse). Peaches and Clean always leaves my skin feeling refreshed while gently removing most of my makeup. It works brilliant as a mask too due to the Alpha-Hydroxy acids. Will repurchase.

Collection Pressed Powder
For only £2 this really is a little gem. It gives that little bit extra coverage while still blending into my skin tone and caking up at all. It does look a little powdery, but that's nothing a little spritz of fix+ or a thermal water cant cure. Already repurchased.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo
I’ve gone from using this as all all over moisturiser to a “targeted” treatment in combination with Re-Gen Oil. I believe this helps keep spots at bay while contributing to my skin tone becoming more even. It’s brilliant for underneath makeup, sinking in perfectly and not leaving any greasy residue. Will repurchase.

The Body Shop Strawberry Puree Body Lotion Miniature
I took this on holiday with me to Paris last year and only used half of it. I tend to use body products I’ve left here when I come home so decided to use this up. It lasts ages for a miniature! Unfortunately though, it’s too “sticky” for my liking, taking abit too long to sink in. I do like it, especially the smell, it’s just I prefer other body lotions. Will not be repurchasing.

Collection Skyscraper Waterproof Mascara
I picked this up for £1 a few months ago. I suck with throwing out mascara and buying new, oops. For the price, it was a complete steal. It gives great length but maybe not as much volume as I would like. Might repurchase but I want to try something new.

V05 Miracle Concentrate
Yet another product I left at my parents house. There wasn’t much left and I kind of forgot about it. Oh boy do I now remember how much I loved this. I could instantly tell the difference after using it on my just washed hair. What was dry and rough feeling (the bleached bits I still haven’t gotten cut out) is now smooth and healthy looking. Will repurchase.

What products have you finished off recently? Have you tried/liked anything I have mentioned?

USA Beauty Wish List

american wishlist

There may still be 2 months to go, but that's not stopped me making a wish list for when I spend the summer in Florida! I mostly want to pick up some brands that we can’t get easily over here without going too crazy as I’m gonna be also buying alot of Disney merchandise.

Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blonde/Taupe
We can get this over here from Cult Beauty, but it’s cheaper stateside! I’ve heard so many good things about this brow duo and am dying to get my grubby paws on it. I’m thinking Ash Blonde/Taupe will be the best shade for me as I'm pretty fair and have blonde eyebrows.

EOS Lip Balms
My friend Katie got me one of these on holiday last year and its been a firm handbag staple ever since. It’s lasted months and i cant wait to grab a few of these as backups while trying some new flavours.

Sephora Jasmine Collection
Oh I do hope this is till in stores when I'm there! I don’t know how much of the collection I am going to get, but this palette is a definite. Being a Disney fiend, how could I not?

Zoya Nail Polish
I have one Zoya polish and adore it, so am looking forward to seeing and picking up more of a selection. Nail polish seems to be cheaper over there, so I'm also going to be getting my hands on some more OPI pretties too.

Kat Von D
I don’t really have an opinion on her as a person, but I'm interested in checking out her makeup line. May pick up one or two bits. Why not eh?

Bath & Bodyworks Candles
I need them! I love candles and will be sending my boyfriend home with at least 4 of these in his case when he comes out to visit. Hopefully the fall collection will be out in August so I can grab a few of them scents also.

Tarte Blush
I will try not to go crazy! No guarantees though. I’m trying to limit myself to two of these, a baby pink shade and a spontaneous one. I’ve heard so many good things and as I’m not taking a blush out there with me, these will be one of my first purchases.

Anastasia Brow Wiz
I generally like eyebrow pencils more than powders, so I cannot really say no to brow wiz. After seeing the Pixiwoo sisters using this alot I've been coveting it for months. But because of it being cheaper in the states (even if only by a few quid) I have resisted.

I’m also going to be picking up some random drugstore bits, especially being interested in Hard Candy. Of course Disney now have their own makeup range in the parks, so bits from that will obviously be making their way into my shopping basket.

What would you recommend trying from the states? Do you like any of these products/brands?

March Favourites 2013

march favourites 2013 beauty fashion

The scary news is that the end of March means 2 months until I finish my university degree. The exciting news is that this also means 2 months until I spend the summer in America! I know i know, I bang on about that way too much. This month has been all about several beauty products and an actual piece of jewellery! I’ve made a video outlining why I like each of these products and what makes them so important this month (aka they make it to my parents in my “basics” makeup bag). Enjoy!

What have you been loving this month?
