Getting my hands on Urban Decay Naked Basics was only a matter of time. I’m a huge fan of naked 1, it’s been a staple in my collection for years, so when a miniature mostly-matte version was presented I knew I had to get my mitts on it. The packaging is sleek, slim and absolutely perfect for travel with a slight rubbery texture, not that different from NARS. The palette boasts 6 neutral shades, 4 of them being exclusive. Venus, a shimmery champagne, Foxy, a matte yellowed-beige, Walk of Shame, a matte pink-beige, Naked 2, a matte taupe, Faint, a matte medium dark brown and Crave, a matte black. The texture is beautifully silky smooth and blend easily (although Crave is a little rougher than the rest) while the shades compliment each other nicely. Marketed as a companion to Naked 1 and 2, I find this perfectly viable to use on its own.
My only quip is that I feel three lighter shades are a little un-necessary, I would liked to have seen a dark brown instead of Foxy/WOS. Other than that, the palette is perfect for my everyday makeup look, for which I use Venus over the lid and under the brow bone, Faint in the crease with Crave used in the outer corner for definition. Naked Basics is most definitely going to get a lot of love from me for years to come, especially for travel.
Pros: Silky smooth, no fallout, beautiful selection of shades, longevity, blends nicely, travel friendly, cruelty free.
Cons: Too many “light” shades, wouldn't work as well on darker skin tones.
At £20 Naked Basics is a lot more accessible to those on a budget while still providing the high-quality product we all know and love. You can pick this up in Debenhams online or in store.
Are you a fan of the Naked range? Do you own any of the palettes?
