NOTD: Teal Rainbow Jelly Sandwich!

So last week I had my first attempt at doing a jelly sandwich nail effect. It didn't turn out as good as I hoped as the teal was too opaque, so I’ll be having round 2 later in the week with another polish!

It looks so much better in person, but not very “jelly-like”.

OPI Base Coat
ELF Teal Blue
OPI Rainbow Connection
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Topcoat

I did my base coat followed by a layer of teal blue (blue? Really? How does that even look at all blue?). Next I added a layer of Rainbow connection, another layer of teal, a layer of rainbow connection and even more teal. Of course i finished with a topcoat.

What's your favourite Jelly Sandwich combination?  Have you ever attempted it?

That’s What She Said: The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Reviver!

_DSC0233edit

Being the owner of a Love Your Body card, I was able to get myself a birthday gift last month worth upto a fiver. After spending an insane amount of time deciding what i wanted, I chose this Skin Reviver which was on sale for £6.50, down from £13! Part of the Vitamin C range, this orange smelling gel claims to give an instantly smooth healthy-looking glow. The bit which sold me, is that it claims to be a perfect base for makeup.

What I love the most about this primer compared to some others I own is that it leaves my face so so smooth without it crossing the line to being slippy (which I don't like at all). I can’t say much for all these radiance claims its making, as I only ever wear it under full (matte finish) makeup but it has the smooth part down completely. Not to mention that it really does smell divine. Half a pump is enough for the face so I reckon this is going to last quite a long time.

_DSC0229edit

My makeup hasn’t particularly lasted longer than it would with any other primer, nor any less. The Body Shop often has half price sales online so I really think this is worth picking up. It does the same job as higher end bases for at least half the price. The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Reviver gets a recommendation from me!

Have you ever tried the Vitamin C Skin Reviver? What's your favourite primer?

Clarisonic Mia: Monthly Update #3 – Initial Verdict!

_DSC0041edit

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you will know that a few months ago I purchased a Clarisonic. Drawn in by the hype, I forked out a silly amount of money for the little device, hoping it would do to me as it’s done to many others. Improve my rebellious skin. After trying it for three months (not including July-August as I just didn't use it then) I think I'm pretty much ready to tell you all my verdict. You can read Update #1 and Update #2 by clicking on the titles in this sentence, they explain my journey a little more in depth.

_DSC0053edit

Honestly, the Clarisonic Mia isn’t worth the price tag. I haven't seen any noticeable results in the time I've been using it. If anything my skin got worse. It’s only after I stopped using it for a while that my skin went back to normal. Sure, in the long run I might see some improvements, I really hope I do, but up to now I really regret spending the money on it.

If its not broke, don’t fix it! My skin was the best its been in years before I started using the Clarisonic, and it’s taken me 4 months to get back to that stage. I think I’m better suited to a good ol’ facial scrub for exfoliation.  Remember though, what does or doesn't work on me might not be the same for you, everybody's skin is different! I am going to continue using this when I’m in the bath, as it’s not caused any bad reactions in the past few weeks, so I will update you guys 6 months on. For now though, I would have to say its a thumbs down.

Do you have a Clarisonic? What is your experience with it?
Don’t forget to vote in my poll on the sidebar for what you want to see in the next few months!

Beauty Wish List September 2012!

There's always going to be products we crave yet cannot justify. Today I'm going to share with you my beauty wish list (with a game thrown into the mix). Most of this stuff I don’t need, yet I cannot help desiring. Hopefully I will be able to place some indie cosmetics orders soon, sating that lust for a little while.

Wishlist september 2012

Sugarpill Cosmetics
One of my favourite makeup brands! I particularly cannot wait to get my hands on the Heartbreaker palette, Chromalust in Lumi and Pressed Shadow in Bulletproof.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation
I’ve seen so many positive reviews about this foundation so am really desperate to try it! Unfortunately they don’t really do samples in the UK, and I am NOT forking out £27 without trying it first in my own time.

Geek Chic Cosmetics
An indie company who are definitely next on my list of purchases. Collections I'm eyeing up include the 10 man raid and Win or Die.

Benefit Hervana Blush
I swatched this a few months ago and instantly fell in love! The colours swirled together make a light pink which would be perfect for fair skin.

World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria
I know i know! But i love Warcraft and am guaranteed to buy this at the end of September when its released. The new talent system and lack of major glyphs is a pain in the arse though –strop-.

Dot by Marc Jacobs
Look at that packaging!!! Its so beautiful, and not to mention the scent is divine! I can see this gracing my Christmas list (I never buy perfume for myself!)

Makeup Geek Eye Shadows
Again after seeing so many positive reviews, the cravings hit. The quality of the MUG shadows looks amazing and for such a good price.

YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation
My good friend Katie has this and recommended it to me, as apparently its pretty darn good! She’s such a bad enabler! Haha. I’m going to try and get a sample of it to try for myself.

Urban Decay Smoked Palette
Such perfect shades –longing sigh-. I really don’t need it though, as I have tonnes of darker eye shadows. The included full sized perversion eyeliner though may just tip the scale.

Shiro Cosmetics
Another indie company that's next on my list of purchases. Hello there Pokémon collection (Super Effective Collection!)

What’s on your wish list?

FOTD: The Immortal Rapunzel!

As promised, here's a look I did with the Fyrinnae Pressed Eye Shadows! Remember Rapunzel is still being tweaked a little so the colour payoff will be different than what will be for sale in 2 weeks time.

_DSC0248edit

Face
The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Reviver, Illamasqua Skin Base 2, MAC studio Finish Concealer NC15, MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural Light, ELF Complexion Perfection, NARS Laguna Bronzer, Benefit Thrrrob, ELF Gotta Glow.

Eyes
UDPP, Fyrinnae Rapunzel Had Extensions, Fyrinnae Immortality, Urban Decay Naked 2 (Tease & Bootycall), ELF Liquid Eyeliner, Urban Decay 27/2 Pencil Eyeliner in Zero, MUFE Smokylash, ELF Lengthening and Volumizing Waterproof Mascara.

Lips
OCC Lip Tar in Hoochie, Sephora Lipgloss in Dazzling Violet.

_DSC0246editThe colours haven’t shown up nearly as well on the eye picture, so see the full face one for more accuracy!_DSC0254edit

Immortality, why you no show up properly! I didn’t have much time to take these pictures and it’s so frustrating about the fail colour payoff on the close-ups. Good news is that I’m moving back to Southampton in 2 weeks so can get a proper setup for taking pictures of my looks yey!

Also I have a poll up on the sidebar about what you would all like to see from me and this blog over the next few months! I really appreciate if you could let me know, it only takes one click <3 Thank you!

That’s What She Said: Fyrinnae Pressed Eye-Shadows, First Impressions and Swatches!

_DSC0180edit

Practically everybody who is a fan of Indie cosmetics will have heard of Fyrinnae. Having a worldwide loyal fan base has helped them grow into possibly the most popular “hand-mixed” company around. So you can imagine the excitement when a little while ago the news that they were expanding their line to include pressed eye shadows broke. It has not yet been revealed when their newest offerings will become available, but I was lucky enough to win a twitter RT contest to get an early preview! Now I haven't personally tried Fyrinnae’s loose pigments, so this is a completely unbiased review.

_DSC0174edit

_DSC0175edit

I was sent Immortality and Rapunzel Had Extensions! Unfortunately Rapunzel came smashed and looking a little sorry for itself, the formula looking a little “soft” or like it hasn’t been pressed properly. No problem! I emailed Fyrinnae with my feedback and they said they would send a new one out to me. I will keep you updated to when I get the replacement and what I think of it!

The packaging is nice but I would personally buy these in pan form I think. One thing I do love, is the label! It’s so professional. I didn't think I could get this excited over a sticky bit of paper (not that it even feels like paper).

_DSC0187edit

Back to Immortality! It is described as a rainbow of sparkles in soft black. Such an accurate description. If used over a black base (such as Mac Paintpot in Blackground or a NYX JEP) an intense shade with so many colourful sparkles winking at me is formed. Otherwise, well, a soft black that is perfect for blending or a smoky eye! If creating a look with the latter, pack that colour on there! Don’t tap the brush off or the colour payoff will be a little poor, don't be afraid to get in there as I’ve found the fallout isn’t too bad.

_DSC0202edit[Immortality swatched onto bare skin]_DSC0200edit[Rapunzel Had Extensions swatched onto bare skin]

Of course not being able to resist, I’ve still used Rapunzel! The fallout is immense though. It’s a gorgeous colour so I'm really looking forward to receiving my replacement.
Having this preview has gotten me very excited for the release. I will probably still get bright colours in loose form, but darker and highlight shades I prefer pressed. I cannot wait to make my first order sometime in the near future. Make sure to check out a look I’ve done with both Immortality and Rapunzel which shall be posted tomorrow.

What Fyrinnae colour are you most looking forward to getting in pressed form? Do you prefer loose or pressed?
